Just as the microclimate of a vineyard is very important to the development of a wine, the microclimate of a winery is very important to the development of Sherry. Gutierrez Colosia is a prime example of this phenomenon. The winery was founded in 1838 and, as was tradition in Sherry Country, they sold their stocks to the big Sherry Houses who would blend and bottle the wine. In 1997 Gutierrez Colosia joined the growing movement of Almacenistas who started to strike out on their own. Juan Carlos Gutierrez started estate bottling to preserve the uniqueness of Gutierrez Colosia�s microclimate.
