Winemaker and co-owner Michael Schmelzer who is also the owner of The Monte Bernardi estate established Fuoristrada to show off the amazing Italian wines made by small producers and bring them to the US market in TetraPaks that are good for the environment. When compared to a 750 ml glass wine bottle, TetraPak cartons use 54% less energy, produce 80% fewer greenhouse gases, produce 60% less volume of solid waste, and have 92% less package weight. That means you get more wine for your money while reducing your environmental impact. The attraction to Italy came about from the distinctive characteristics of Italian wines. Fuoristrada has a respect for the environment, which is an important principle in their partnerships and winemaking; all of their wines are grown organically and biodynamically by enthusiastic growers.
