Hammerling

Hammerling Wines was founded in 2018 by winemaker Josh Hammerling. With a goal of exploring cool-climate California vineyards along the coast, the winery produces low-intervention sparkling wines that showcase the unique terroir of the region. Hammerling's fascination with classic and experimental expressions of sparkling wine began with many low-intervention experiments in friends' garages while he was working in cellars, vineyards, and tasting rooms in Washington State in 2014. He moved to Berkeley in 2017 to work for Broc Cellars and Donkey and Goat while getting his project off the ground. Berkeley's location offers easy access to distinctive, responsibly farmed vineyards in both the Central Coast to the south and Mendocino to the north, making it the ideal location for sourcing fruit. With a focus on minimal intervention and natural winemaking practices, Hammerling Wines has quickly earned critical acclaim for its exceptional sparkling wines. Each bottle reflects the character of the region and the dedication of its winemaker to producing wines that are a true expression of the land.
