High Wire

High Wire Distilling Company is a craft distillery in the middle of downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Their method is straightforward: they source the best possible ingredients and use a unique, culinary perspective to generate delicious recipes. To produce the best spirits in the South, they distill all of their products in small batches using a German copper still that is hammered by hand. Scott Blackwell and Ann Marshall, a married couple, started High Wire with the intention of bringing South Carolina its first small-batch, handmade, craft spirits. Scott has been a "serial entrepreneur" all his life, and he just now sold his company, the Immaculate Baking Company, to the food giant General Mills. The pair wasted no time in coming up with a business concept for the distillery, which would allow them to combine their love of entrepreneurship with fine artisan spirits. High Wire Distillery creates its unique line of small-batch spirits using carefully curated ingredients. Scott, who has a background in baking and attended the Culinary Institute of America, uses his expertise of artisanal grains and culinary processes to craft spirits. The distillery has an apothecary where new, small-batch recipes can be made and tested, with a primary focus on using local, one-of-a-kind ingredients. High Wire doesn't just make their regular products; they also have a rotating lineup of seasonal limited editions. High Wire Distillery calls its 6,000 square foot warehouse on Upper King Street home, and it's just as rustic as the spirits themselves. The Production Area is large and beautifully retro, with a 20-foot barreled ceiling and a stunning hand-hammered copper still as its centerpiece. The Tasting Room at High Wire is surrounded by rough-hewn cypress walls that give off a cozy glow, and wide windows that provide a glimpse of the distilling process. Guests also get a taste of learning about the ingredients, technique, and recipes that go into making spirits.
