Lágrimas de Dolores

Agave durangensis (cenizo), native to the Mexican state of Durango, has been the focus of the Gutierrez family's mezcal manufacturing experiments for the past nine years. The number of agave varieties in Durango is second only to those in Oaxaca. Lágrimas de Dolores has made it its mission to help mezcal producers in the less populated and more difficult to reach parts of Durango cultivate their agave. More recently, the family has been experimenting with different wild agave varietals, collaborating with people in other regions of the Durango to collect wild agave strains.
