Marta Valpiani
Marta Valpiani, alongside her daughter Elisa Mazzavillani, has built a legacy of winemaking in Romagna, nestled between the ancient villages of Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole. They tend to eight hectares of Albana and Sangiovese vineyards situated on the hill of Bagnolo, with unique soil compositions and influence from the nearby Adriatic. The mother-daughter duo took over 12 hectares of vineyards in 1998, driven by a passion for creating exquisite wines. Their first commercial vintage, Marta Valpiani, debuted in 2006, marking the beginning of their journey to critical acclaim. With roots tracing back to Marta's father, Delio, and grandfather, Dino, the family's winemaking legacy continues to thrive under the dedicated care of Marta and Elisa. "Elisa Mazzavillani and her mother, Marta Valpiani, make wines in Romagna, between the two towns of Castrocaro Terme and Terra del Sole. Their eight hectares of vineyards — primarily Albana and Sangiovese — are located 250 to 350 meters above sea level on both sides of the hill of Bagnolo, with fossil-laden soils predominately of blue clay to the north and fine yellow sand and gypsum to the south. The nearby Adriatic lends a savory, saline note to the white wines, and the blue clay soils inspire uniquely intense, floral Sangiovese. Their goal is making terroir wines, with a minimal approach based in the rule of "less is more".
