At Gota, Natalia Jessa brings growers, winemakers, and native varieties from across Portugal together under one label. The project preserves local vinous traditions while spotlighting under-the-radar regions for wine lovers around the world.
Originally from Poland, Natalia spent years in Ireland as a buyer at a massive English food and wine market. But after studying with WSET, she developed a deep affinity for wine. So she moved to Portugal and started a distribution company, which provided ample opportunities to explore the nation’s diverse wine regions and varieties while building relationships with talented vintners.
She realized just how many of these exceptional terroirs and talents have long remained hidden from wine lovers in other countries. So she founded Gota to showcase them. Today Natalia partners with small growers and collaborates with local winemakers to craft traditional Ports from Douro, plus dry reds and whites from Dão, Alentejo, Tejo, Alentejano, Terras do Dão, and Vinho Verde. Each wine highlights grape varieties indigenous to its region, farmed with the minimum possible pesticides and other chemicals.
Natalia’s mantra is “drink it, don’t overthink it,” encapsulating a philosophy that produces wines combining refreshing drinkability with depth and typicity. Each wine bears a floral name to represent their aromatic complexity, and Gota means “drop,” showing Natalia’s enduring goal to infuse every drop with Portuguese tradition, terroir, and personality.
