About Narupa

Narupa Wines, situated in the heart of the Val do Salnés valley in the Rías Baixas region of Spain, is a small family-run winery founded by four friends - the Pedrosa brothers (Rosa and Fran), Ruth Campelo, and Nacho Jímenez. They have garnered attention for their exceptional Albariño wines, showcasing the diversity and quality of this grape variety through their distinctive products: Narupa Alalá, Caneco, and Piorno.

Narupa Alalá, sourced from vines in siliceous, granitic soils, is a testament to the winery's commitment to sustainable and organic practices. This wine is known for its maturity and complexity, challenging the typical perception of Albariño as a young wine. Caneco, another standout product, is an Albariño aged for 9 months in stainless steel tanks on the lees.

This wine captures the essence of the Galician coast with its fresh, saline, floral, and citrusy notes, balanced acidity, and minerality. It reflects the coastal influence of the Val do Salnés valley, offering a taste that is both invigorating and reminiscent of its origin. Piorno, named after a local shrub, comes from an inland vineyard 16 kilometers from the sea, featuring 50-year-old vines in sandy loam and clay loam soils of granitic origin.

Narupa's approach to viticulture focuses on organic treatments and the avoidance of chemicals. The winemaking process involves crushing and cold maceration of the grapes for 30 hours, followed by fermentation with native yeasts in barrels where it remains for approximately 10 months.

Piorno is a wine that not only showcases the Albariño grape's potential for aging but also represents one of the most intriguing new Atlantic projects in Rías Baixas. Together, these wines illustrate Narupa's dedication to showcasing the Albariño grape in various expressions, emphasizing the unique terroir of Rías Baixas while maintaining a deep respect for the environment.

Each wine, whether it be Alalá, Caneco, or Piorno, offers a distinct taste experience, reinforcing Narupa's position as a notable and innovative winery in the region.
