Pinot Noir "Janus" Willamette Valley - 2019

The 2019 Brooks Janus Pinot Noir is the winery's flagship wine and the first label that founder Jimi Brooks produced when he started Brooks in 1998. This lighter-bodied Pinot Noir exhibits elegant notes of violets, red fruit, and baking spices. The 2019 vintage in Oregon was a classic year, with a wet but warm spring, a few mild frosts in late April, and fewer than average heat spikes. Near-record precipitation in late June and early July brought increased disease pressure to the region. The early rains in September and rapid cool down into October challenged harvesting decisions. The cool vintage was largely due to lower maximum temperatures, while minimum temperatures were near average to slightly above average. The 2019 Janus Pinot Noir was sourced from several vineyards in the Willamette Valley, including Brooks Estate, Muska-Bement, Muska, Sunny Mountain, Cortell-Rose, Johan, Temperance Hill, Crawford, Crannell, Sunset Ridge, and Deux Vert. The wine was hand-sorted, 100% destemmed, and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Only 800 cases were produced.
