This vineyard, located in the scenic Contra Costa Hills, is known as "Volcano" since it was established on its own isolated mountaintop. Over twenty years ago, Dick and Mary Lou Vanderkous surrounded their sprawling estate home with a world-class Vineyard they planted themselves. They decided to start growing wine grapes. Sangiovese and Merlot make up the bulk of the Vineyard's plantings, with a few rows of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah thrown in for good measure. Soft fruity midpalate with a medium body and a light peppery touch from the Sangiovese. Ideal for those somewhat chillier summer evenings. On Pizza Night, this is our go-to bottle of wine.
