Molly Malone

Isle of Man, Ireland

The Molly Malone Whiskey Company builds on a family tradition dating back to 1762, when records show the Chibnall family owned a wine merchants, a cooperage business and the local pub. The business later expanded to a London-based cork manufacturer called G. Lombard. Through marriage, the family name became Lombard-Chibnall.

Margaret Lombard-Chibnall founded Lombard Scotch Whisky in the mid-1960s. Richard joined the company in his twenties, eventually working as Global Brand Director. Together, they built an award-winning portfolio of blended Scotch whiskies, rare single cask whiskies and single malts. In 2019, Richard founded The Molly Malone Whiskey Company.

The inspiration came from an evening in Ramsey, a fishing community on the Isle of Man, where the family had settled 50 years earlier. A local fishing crew invited Richard aboard to eat queenies, or scallops. Some of the whisky he brought along was used to flash cook them. This was the lightbulb moment that connected whiskey, cockles, mussels and the song Molly Malone.

The company hand selects Irish malts and crafts them in small batches to create a premium whiskey that’s light on the palate and deliciously sweet. Irish single malt and grains are married together, with second fill bourbon casks made from high-grade American oak chosen to enhance the flavour without overpowering the light character of the malt.
