The Echezeaux Grands Crus have a rich history and tradition, distinguished by their separation from the Clos de Vougeot by a historic wall. These two iconic vineyards have been central to the heritage of the Abbey of Cîteaux since the 12th and 13th centuries, establishing themselves as significant landmarks in the Côte de Nuits region. The terroir features clay and limestone soils, with an ideal eastern to southeastern exposure, located at an altitude ranging from 240 to 340 meters. Wines from this appellation possess excellent cellaring potential, typically aging gracefully for 10 to 20 years. They are best enjoyed at a serving temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. Echezeaux Grand Cru wines are crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes, with an average yield of approximately 40 hectoliters per hectare. The cultivation adheres to principles of sustainable agronomy. During the 14-month maturation process, 20 to 40 percent of the barrels used are made of new oak. Notably, the production employs a 100 percent whole-cluster approach, enhancing the wine's complexity and structure.
