'Furmint & HUN' is a pitch-perfect introduction to István Szepsy's singular dry Tokaji wines. HUN is produced from furmint grown in six different sites from across the 52-hectare estate, each one vinified and separately in stainless steel, lightly fined and filtered and then blended before bottling. In 2021, István was fortunate enough to avoid the frost that damaged many of Europe's other top wine regions. Spring was relatively cold, followed by a hot June and July punctuated by heavy storms. Temperatures dropped at the end of August,slowing ripening and allowing a classic even maturity level. The fruit in these six sites was harvested at the end of September.
The end product is a dry furmint that is full of pleasure, with sweet citrus, fresh ginger and a little touch of mint. As with all the dry wines at Szepsy, there is terrific density and dry extract - it's clear from the first sip that the raw material here is of the absolute highest quality. An extraordinary value.
