About Domaine de Chatelain de Oliveira
Originally from Portugal, the de Oliveira family arrived in Chablis before the Second World War and Monsieur de Oliveira founded the family domaine as an arm of a broader farming operation in 1955 with less than a hectare of Chablis. Over the next ten years, the family expanded its holdings to seven hectares and gave up their other farming interests to focus exclusively on wine.
They built a new winery, upgraded their equipment and planted new vines. Since then, they have worked consistently to grow the estate and today their holdings total more than 40 hectares of vines, including 30 hectares of Chablis and a handful of small parcels of Chablis 1er Cru and Grand Cru.
The vineyards are farmed according to lutte raisonnée principles, and the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel. The result are wines of great purity and focus, that speak clearly of Chablis’ famed Kimmeridgean limestone soils.
