Tenuta di Valgiano
Tenuta di Valgiano, originally constructed as a late medieval watchtower, was transformed into an extended farm in the early 16th century. Since the Renaissance, the estate has been a crucial center for agricultural development, as mentioned in Repetti's 1845 geographical dictionary of Tuscany and the Duchy of Lucca. Nestled on the southern side of Mount Pizzorne, Valgiano is surrounded by picturesque vineyards and olive groves. In the early 1900s, the property managed 37 sharecropping farms. Today, it spans 40 hectares of vineyards, olive groves, wheat fields, and woodland. The 16-hectare vineyard lies in the eastern part of the estate, featuring limestone clay soil with an alluvial sandstone covering. This composition is reflected in Valgiano's wines, which display the power of limestone and the finesse of silica sandstone soils. Since 1993, the estate has been committed to producing wines that purely express the characteristics of its territory while preserving the land's integrity. Enologist Saverio Petrilli, who joined in 1994, has been instrumental in building Valgiano's reputation and elevating the region's international recognition. Saverio Petrilli has been our enologist since 1994 building our reputation and that of our region that is becoming well known internationally.
