About Union Horse
The Union Horse Distilling Co. of Kansas City is leading the way for handmade whiskey with its Long Shot and Reunion varieties. In Kansas City, you'll find Union Horse Distilling Co., a boutique distillery and event space known for its small-batch, multi-award-winning sprits. Damian (Director of Sales & Marketing), Patrick (Master Distiller), Eric (General Manager), and Mary Garcia run the family business, UHDCo (Director of Special Events).
The high odds of maintaining a successful distilling business with the big brands dominating the market inspired the previous name of this grain-to-bottle, craft distillery, which was called Dark Horse Distillery until 2016. UHDCo., a distillery specializing in artisan whiskeys, obtains its grain from local farmers and mills it on the premises, providing it exceptional control over the grain bill and the sour mash process used for all of its whiskeys. And because they are waste-aware, they give their used mash to a nearby dairy farmer who feeds it to his cows.
The Rye and Bourbon are both distilled in a 500-gallon copper hybrid still known as Chester Copperpot before spending at least two years and up to five years aging in new Missouri oak barrels. Union Horse's Rye and Bourbon bottles are individually numbered and signed by owner Patrick Garcia and given a unique label. Only roughly 2,500 bottles of whiskey (between their Bourbon and Rye) are produced each month, making these whiskies genuine "small batch" products.
Union Horse whiskies are not filtered using charcoal, and neither the whiskey nor the family horses featured on the Chrome and Steel labels are colored or flavored artificially.
