Tuscany, Italy

Carlo Franchetti discovered a small pinot noir vineyard near San Casciano dei Bagni in 2011, which inspired him to create the Sancaba project to express the elegance of the varietal and the terroir's character. The first vinification was entirely homemade in 2012, revealing a wine with great potential. In 2013, the Vini Franchetti SRL partnership was formed, and the winemaking transferred to Tenuta di Trinoro under the supervision of Andrea Franchetti. Different approaches were experimented with between 2014 and 2016, resulting in no wine releases. In 2017, new high-density vineyards produced their first crop, and production resumed gradually, increasing from 1200 to 3300 and eventually reaching 6000 bottles. The original farmhouse and winery will undergo restoration in 2021, and production will return home under the supervision of Carlo Franchetti with the help of oenologist Gianluca Colombo. The name SANCABA is an acronym invented by Carlo Franchetti in honor of the town of San Casciano dei Bagni.
