In the celebrated Asili cru of Barbaresco, Roberto farms a small plot of Barbera that gives life to “Axilium”, a name that echoes its origin. Fermented in traditional cement tanks and aged for two years in Stockinger demi-muids, the wine reflects the same patient craftsmanship as his Barbaresco.
“Axilium” is both powerful and refined: vibrant red fruits meet a firm, stony minerality, while polished tannins carry the flavors into a long, graceful finish. More than an outlier, it reveals Barbera’s capacity for depth and elegance when grown in great terroir, with the poise to age beautifully for decades.
A vivid ruby red in the glass, this Barbera opens with aromas of ripe cherries, wild berries, and subtle floral tones, layered with hints of spice and dark chocolate. On the palate, it combines richness with finesse: vibrant acidity, smooth tannins, and a fine mineral edge create balance and depth. The finish is long and harmonious, leaving an impression of both freshness and elegance.

Organic practices, manual labour, green harvest. Guyot system, early october harvest

320 m. als, 0.6 hectare 1 single vineyard
Fermentation
The grapes undergo a controlled fermentation at around 28 °C for 10–12 days, allowing the wine to retain its elegance and express the true character of the Barbera grape. In some cases, both fermentation and malolactic conversion take place in cement vats, a traditional technique borrowed from Barbaresco, which helps preserve purity, freshness, and a sense of place in the wine.
Elevage
The wine ages 20 months in large Slavonian oak casks or Stockinger demi-muids, followed by 12 months in bottle, allowing it to develop depth, elegance, and a refined texture.
