Formed in 2009 by high school friends Jeff Kessinger, Marcus Urani, and Tyler Warrender, with assistance from Blue Bottle Coffee Co. co-founder James Freeman, Firelit Coffee Liqueur was named after the trio's original cold brew coffee liqueur recipe. Kessinger outsourced manufacturing to a number of distilleries for the first five years before opening his own coffee liqueur brewery in Napa, California. After being roasted, the coffee is left to steep in cold water for 18 hours before being combined with a brandy/coffee infusion. Stainless steel tanks are used to age the mixture for a full month, allowing the flavors to meld. Brewing a cold batch of fresh coffee is done as a proving process before bottling. Though it was intended to be consumed on its own, Firelit is a fantastic complement to savory and sweet drinks alike.
