Cascina Luisin’s Barbaresco Basarin is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from one of the most historic and celebrated crus of Neive. The Basarin vineyard, located on the border between Neive and Treiso, enjoys a privileged south and southwest exposure at higher elevations. Cascina Luisin’s Barbaresco Basarin stands out for its combination of aromatic delicacy and structural precision, making it a wine of remarkable personality and aging potential. Long fermentations enhance the natural tannic backbone of Nebbiolo, while aging in large Slavonian oak casks preserves purity of fruit and transparency of terroir. This artisanal approach ensures that Basarin reflects its origin with precision and authenticity.
In the glass, Barbaresco Basarin reveals a brilliant garnet color and an aromatic profile marked by red cherries, wild strawberries, and hints of pomegranate, layered with floral notes of rose and violet and subtle touches of sweet spice and underbrush. On the palate, it shows a graceful balance between freshness and structure: tannins are firm yet finely woven, while a vibrant acidity lends tension and lift. The finish is long, savory, and mineral driven.

More information

Harvest technique
Organic practices, manual labor, green harvest. Guyot system, early October harvest
Soil
Basarin’s soils are calcareous marl with a high sand content, yielding Barbarescos that are fragrant, elegant, and approachable even in youth.
Fermentation
The wine spends about 40 days in cement tanks: during the first 8 days it undergoes frequent rackings to encourage strong extraction, while the following weeks allow a gentler maceration to draw out fine tannins essential for development and aging.
Elevage
It then carries out malolactic fermentation and matures in 30 hl Slavonian Stockinger oak casks for 18 months, gaining structure, elegance, and the classic austerity of Nebbiolo. After that it spends 6 months in bottles.
Vintage details
The 2020 vintage in Basarin was warm and stable, with an early and even growing season supported by spring rain. Ripening was smooth, leading to an early and healthy harvest. Nebbiolo showed ripe red fruit, balanced tannins, and moderate acidity. Overall, the wines are round, approachable, and harmonious, with solid medium-term aging potential.
