About Domaine Vicomte de Noûe.Marinič
Domaine Vicomte de Noüe∙Marinič is the product of the hard work of two families who know a little something about hard work. Charles-Louis de Noüe may pass his time in Italy and Slovenia, but he hails from Puligny Montrachet, where he is a family partner in the legendary Domaine Leflaive, helmed for years by his aunt AnneClaude Leflaive. His friend Alis Marinic is a third-generation grower in Goriska Brda, a slice of Slovenia where viticulture can be traced to Ancient Greece. Since launching the estate in 2019, Charle-Louis and Alis have sought to produce top-quality whites and reds that represent the very best of the region.
‘Marinic’ is the entry-level set the range, varietal bottlings from flatland vineyards that represent the area’s winemaking history. ‘Erigone’ are site-specific, single-variety wines from across the estate’s holdings. Lastly come the Chardonnays of Domaine Vicomte de Noüe∙Marinič, each from a single parcel. Goriska Brda has a long history of quality grape-growing, marked by the 1787 classification of the area’s best vineyards under Queen Marie-Therese of Austria which has endured to this day, and the Erigone and Domaine wines are all selected and vinified according to this system.
Viticulture at the estate is executed entirely without chemicals and Alis and Charles-Louis are working toward organic certification and eventually biodynamic certification as well. Winemaking here is serious and patient - virtually nothing is bottled without at least 18 months in barrel or tank. This is a riveting range of wines. The various Chardonnays are all highly individual and lovely and the wines from the area’s more ancient varieties are delicate and full of character.
