About Trefethen

The Trefethen family are pioneers in the Napa Valley and champions of estate grown wines. They are dedicated to growing thoughtfully farmed, top quality grapes and producing wines that don’t chase trends but instead capture the character of their estate vineyard in the Oak Knoll District AVA.

At the heart of Trefethen is the estate vineyard, located in the Oak Knoll District. The estate is the sole source of grapes for Trefethen. No grapes are bought or brought in. All 440 acres of the vineyard are farmed by Trefethen team. Growing and farming the grapes from start to finish, year in and year out, directly translates into the quality of the wines. The team can make the best decisions possible for each block and each vine, which leads to better fruit and excellent wines.

Thoughtful farming and sustainability are at the core of the Trefethen family’s philosophy. The vineyard is Certified California Sustainable, and both the vineyard and winery are Certified Napa Green. Cover crops, estate made compost, water recycling, solar power, along with many other practices contribute to the family’s pursuit of sustainability.

Sister and brother, Hailey and Lorenzo Trefethen, are at the helm of the winery and estate (the third generation to do so). The Trefethen estate is steeped in history and while Hallie and Lorenzo honor it, they are not weighed down by it. Instead, it acts as a reminder to be dynamic and look forward.
